Womens History Month: Billie Jean King

Writer: The YSIThe YSI

Billie Jean King, is an American former World No. 1 professional tennis player. King won 39 Grand Slam titles.

Billie Jean was always an activist on the fight of women’s rights, but her most famous achievement was challenging Bobby Rings, in what turned out to be the “Battle of Sexes”.

Billie, a 29-year-old at that time, tired of listening Bobby Rings, criticising women’s quality on tennis, challenged him for match.

She won the game, and showed the world what women were made of.

“It’s really important that we start celebrating our differences. Let’s start tolerating first, but then we need to celebrate our differences “ Billie Jean King
