Council recognises the dedication and support provided by carer’s across Scotland and commends their unwavering contribution to ensuring dignity and opportunity for those they care for.
Council believes that current carers allowance rates do not fully reflect the contribution made by carers in society. We do however welcome the proposed Supplement under the Social Security Bill.
Council calls on the Scottish Government to introduce a triple lock for carer’s allowance in Scotland identical to the one applied to the state pension. This lock should uprate carers allowance by the highest figure from CPI inflation, earnings or by 2.5%.
Council further calls for adequate uprating of the income earnings threshold on the amount carers can earn for receipt of carer’s allowance.
The change in uprating method should contain protection to prevent carers from losing their carers allowance.
